Ira Glass on storytelling: good taste (part 3)
All of us who get into creative work, we get into it because we have good taste.
But in the beginning, there’s a gap. What you’re making is not that good. It’s trying to be good. But it’s not that good. But your taste is still killer.
A lot of people never make it past that point. They quit.
The thing I would say to you with all my heart. Those who do creative work, they went thruogh a phase for years. You gotta know it’s totally normal. And the best thing you can do is do a lot of work.
Create a deadline. Only by going through a volume of work will you catch up and close that gap. And your work will actually be as good as your ambitions.
